Sketches
My initial idea was to do a series of characters related to poker, like the queen, the king, and the knight, etc. But then after I started to sketch the figures, I thought I could really expand the range and do something more abstract. Some of the characters I drew reminded me of the game called Monument Valley. That gave me an idea of making these characters with just black and white paper, keeping them clean and simple.
Process
To be honest, working with paper is harder than I thought. It is not very flexible, and it's easy to crease. Calculating the 2D shape for the final form takes time too. So I started using the same 2D patterns over on different characters, but only changed the way I glue them and the place I apply the shape to.
