Experients in AR: LEGO AR App

Team

Alina Liu, Casta Zhu

The Problem

Play is under threat. 2 in 10 kids say they have no time to play and parents struggle to see its value - packing kids full of extracurricular activities and traditional school learning.

We are in danger of raising a generation of kids who are less creative, curious, and happy: at age 5, we engage in creative tasks 98 times, laugh 113, and ask 65 questions per day- by 44 it drops to 2 creative tasks, 11 laughs, and 6 questions.

Why is Play Important?

Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, dexterity, and physical, cognitive, and emotional strength. Play is important to healthy brain development. It is through play that children at a very early age engage and interact in the world around them.

Idea Description

An AR game app that encourages children to build LEGO structure in real life to complete virtual challenges.

How does it work?

The flow of the app includes 5 parts. Users will first scan their surrounding environment by holding up their phones. The challenge points will be identified automatically in the space, including helping the LEGO character to climb, cross, avoid obstacles and etc. After the users choose a challenge they want to start with, they can put their phones aside to focus on building the LEGO structure in the actual environment. When the users are done building the structure, they can now pick up the phone again and scan it. They can also save their creation with the LEGO character and post it on social media.
